headphones and tv volume?

I have a set of Sony wireless headphones and use them to watch TV in bed while my husband sleeps. The TV volume was set to zero and I could adjust the volume on the headphones to suit myself. He heard absolutely nothing and I could hear just fine. We had a Comcast cable box connected to the TV. Oddly, I thought, even if the TV was turned off, I could hear whatever was tuned in on it with the headphones.

We recently moved out of the Comcast area and have a different phone/cable/internet company. Now when we connect the same TV, same headphones, same everything (except a different looking cable box) I must put the TV on its lowest volume--not zero, like it used to work, to hear anything through the headphones. It IS the lowest setting, but one CAN hear the TV, which defeats the whole purpose of the headphones. Why do the headphones act differently now?

One thing that is different...the new cable/digital phone/internet provider is wireless within our house. We have three TVs, internet, and phone on their wireless system.

I thought maybe the headphones got broken during the move and bought a new set today. Plugged everything in and same thing...must have the TV volume on the lowest setting to hear anything. Why is this? How can I get back to absolute silence from the TV? It worked perfectly for our needs.

Sounds like on the Comcast box you had an audio output and the wireless headphone transmitter was connected there. Take a look at the back of the new cable box. You are looking for a jack or jacks marked audio out. That is where you will need to plug in your wireless transmitter. I hope this helps you out.
