I'm looking to purchase a new laptop. I'm trying to buy a high-quality laptop and I would like someone who actually knows what they're talking about to look over the information here and tell me what I should improve.

Gateway MP8708 vs Gateway NV7915u...?

Ok here's the skinny; I have a Gateway MP8708 right now and the battery was subject to a recall http://www.gateway.com/battery/#

So obviously I applied for the recall and got the ball rolling then they tell me they don't have the battery replacements anymore. I expect to hear "sorry but you have to deal with it" kind of thing but instead they tell me they'll replace my entire computer with a brand new one that's equivalent, the NV7915u...

The new one will come with Windows 7 (which I have no experience with), but that doesnt really matter considering I primarily run Ubuntu and will use the dual boot option leaving a 100gig partition for the Windows 7 OS...

So if you have had any experience with either or both of these models I would love to hear your input, I know receiving a brand new computer for nothing is a great deal but I really like my current computer and it has a lot of dependability and NEVER given me a problem. I imagine it's near the end of it's rope though being almost 4 years old and still running strong...

Anyways let me know what you think and if you happen to run ubuntu even better...

i have this mouse and it wireless and it doesn't work u see on Sunday I went to walgreen to get batteries and it was working put then i accidentally put one of the batteries in the wrong way and when i fix it my mouse didn't work so help

keyboard have to be to pick up the signall. My prob is I have ultea small flat with no room foe whole PC set-up, and cant afford a Laptop. My thinking is to put my tower behind my 32" LCD Tv and connect it to Tv using VGA cable,, Then all I would have to worry about would be a cordless mouse and keyboard on my cofee table. But II have never used them cordless so dont know how close I would have to be to the PC tower. Any opinions, Thanks Charlie

A few nights ago my wireless mouse stopped working. At the bottom of the screen (on my laptop) it said something about the USB device not working, and for more information click this message. Of course I couldn't because I couldn't use my mouse, and all I could do was shut it down. I turned it back on hoping it was just a quick glitch but it wasn't. I was able to press Enter to bring up the Start menu, but today even that isn't working. All I can do is turn it on/off.

I am accessing cable internet through a router on my desktop. My desktop is a really old Compaq Presario computer that should have been put out of its misery years ago, but right now its all I've got.

*Also, a few family members were using my computer before it malfunctioned. Could it be possible that they clicked on a malicious website and I got a bug that is causing this? After they were finished with my laptop it went to sleep for about an hour before I got back on it to use and found my mouse not working.
I'm not very computer savvy, so I don't know how to operate it w/o the mouse in order to use safe mode. As far as my operating systems go, I am using Windows Vista Basic on my laptop and Windows 2003 on my desktop. Ancient yes I know, but it's all I've got.

***IMPORTANT!! I forgot to mention this, the touchpad on my laptop doesn't work so I HAVE to use a mouse with it. (It stopped working over 2 years ago & I'm so used to it that I didn't even think about putting that in.)
