The consumer website below (Consumer Search) collects and consolidates reviews for all types of products and makes recommendations based on their analysis of various reviews. The links below are for their latest recommendations/compilation of reviews for multifunction printers (Last updated in January 2010):

You may also want to look into Consumer Reports...the last time they did a review on a wide spectrum of printers in their December 2009 issue. They also publish a yearly "Electronics Buying Guide" which includes printers. Both of these (the magazine and the Electronics Buying Guide) should be available at your local public library.

Or, for $5.95/month (auto-renewing, but you can cancel at any time), you can subscribe to their online version, which offers full ratings/reports on many types of printers.

Below is a link to their main printer review page.

Lastly, Amazon and HP currently have deals (links below) (Amazon - about $137 - and HP $180) on the HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One (HP Model Number CD055A#ABA)

This printer prints, copies, scans, and direct digital photo prints. It offers automatic two-sided printing, prints up to 33 pages per minute, has black print resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi / Color print resolution 9600 x 2400 optimized dpi, among other features. It has a one-year limited warranty (I believe extended coverage is available, at a cost).

Regarding ink costs, the HP brand higher-capacity inks for this printer may seem expensive (about $35/ per black cartridge and $18/for each color cartridge) but they do offer cheaper lower-yield ones (about $10-$12/cartridge) (the higher-capacity ones are a better deal in the long run).

You can find a listing of the cartridges, their price, as well as their page yields by scrolling midway down the page below (the HP product info page) - and clicking on the tab labeled "Cartridges":

Keep in mind that you could also save money by purchasing high-yield remanufactured cartridges for this printer:

Every time I go to print my inkjets are blocked?

I am sick of my Epson Stylus 810, just about every time I go to use it the jets are blocked, even if it was OK the day before.
I have cleaned them by running the software, sometimes they unblock other times they dont, I have got through so much Epson ink!

I am now in a position to replace it for a new one preferably wireless, not sure even to go for a laser colour machine at least that wont get blocked.

Mine is a few years old but has not had a lot of use, I was hoping the newer ones would be better but reading reviews on places such as Amazon even the newer models can experience the same problem.

Anyone suggest a good colour printer which does not get blocked every 2 minutes?

What are your recommendations for an All-in-one printer?

I need the following features:
* Color Printer (color laser preferred)
* Wireless network connectivity
* Scanner - MUST scan directly to PDF. The All-in-one I was using before (HP Photosmart 3300) would only scan JPGs. This was completely unacceptable.
* USB ports to read flash drives
* Built-in memory card reader would be nice, but not mandatory

Money is not really an object - but I'm hoping to spend less than $300. I'm looking for a high quality all-in-one for personal/home business use. I'm looking for big name brands, too (HP, Samsung, Lexmark). I do not want any faxing capabilities, but if the only model you know of has a fax built in, that's fine.

Shopping for All-in-one's is always hit and miss. It always seems like all the features are there, then you take it home and you are sadly disappointed. Any suggestions are welcome.

Choosing a small office MFP: Ink jet vs laser

This week I've been shopping for a new printer to replace an old LaserJet 1200 in my home office. Although 99% of what I do is print black and white text, I want a multifunction printer (MFP) so that I can run an occasional scan, make photocopies and print something in color once in a while.

This is a workhorse printer that I will keep for many years, so my most important criteria are operating cost and reliability. It's going to be hard to beat the old LaserJet. The thing ran for a decade with no maintenance at all, and my cost per page was about 2 cents. Aftermarket cartridges brought that down to about $.005 per page. That doesn't include paper, of course.

Brother HL-2170W 23ppm Laser Printer | Snipsly

After fighting for several years with HP printers in my at ease — we run several flavors of Windows, OS X and some Linux — and having HP’s drivers nothing but give incredible levels of woe when network printing, I unconditional to turn brands. I had three Relative laser printers in our shtick indulgence as cheapo ones to solve some people who well-founded wanted their own printer in their commission as contrasted with of the using the network workhorse. Well, those shoddy Chum lasers have worked for over two years now without drown in red ink and without a glitch.

So, I grabbed this printer ($99 when I bought it). Setup was a bit annoying, as I was using the wired-to-wireless instructions. I’m an IT tech, and had to go through it twice to get it to business. I’m guessing that Joe or Jane as a rule drug might end up job tech authenticate a decent amount of the chance.
