I know this is possible but I'm unsure once its connected how to log in using the username and long password my landlord gave to me. I've tried using the wizard to create a network but that wont work as on every option, dial-up, VPN etc I get the error "could not load phonebook". I'm not even sure if I need to do this to access my landlords network.
If I had a wireless USB for my PC would it automatically detect the router making the process easier? I plan on getting one but for now I only have an eternet cable to attach and as I'm situated right next to the router and modem I thought this would be the cheapest option.
Its a Belkin wireless G Plus MIMO router with a Virgin media modem. My PC has a Agere systems AC 97 modem and under the network adapters in SYSTEM - DEVICE MANAGER it says I have 1934 Net adaptor and Intel Pro/100 VE network connection. I assume I should be able to connect via the ethernet cable but cannot work out how to. I read that to access the network hosts login I should type in ipconfig in to a command window while connected to the router and it will give me the default gateway IP address which I should then type in to my browser address bar. The problem is the default gateway IP address is blank. All I have is IP addresses for subnet mask and autoconfiguration. Typing these in to the IE address bar do not work.
I'm at a loss on how to get connected. Do I need to run a network setup wizard because if so I need to first determine the issue with the phone book error. Or do I need more information from my landlord to connect? He just said the username is admin and the password is written down for me but I have no idea where I input this.
Also, the my PC was recently infected with WIN32/Virut virus which caused some damage and is probably still on my machine even though up to date scans and rmvirut scans say its clean. As I've only used the pc for gaming and backed up important data I didn't take the advice of doing a full OS re-install to ensure the virus is removed completely. I don't want to infect anyone elses machine or cause damage to my landlords equipment. Can it be spread via my pc to the router and then wirelessly to other peoples machines?
Any advice on this would be great. Thanks!
Its a wifi setup but I'm trying to connect directly with an ethernet cable from my PC to the router. I'm unable to use the network wizard as I get a phonbook error for everyone but I'm uncertain if I even need to do this. The landlord just said when I connect it asks for username and password. I assume if I had a wireless usb for my PC it would detect the router and make it easier to log in. By connecting with an ethernet cable I'm unsure how to proceed.
