How do I get Internet?

I got an USB wireless adapter and installed it on my computer. I have Verizon FIOS, so they gave me a router, so how do I get the internet. I installed the adapter to my computer it says I have a very good connection, but I can not get online. What am I doing wrong?

i dont know which to get either the wireless if my walmart has it but i think i have seen it
or the LAN
i'd use the wireless USB because my wii is in my room and the computer is in a couple rooms over and i dont think the cord goes ten meters


the reason i need one is because my dads friend screwed around with the wireless settings on the Dlink and NOW i cant connect without screwing around with it all over again
i tried and its all under a lock and user name etc
friggen netowork magic so im wondering if either the USB or LAN will just hook it up without having to dick around with more wireless settings. almost like a personal wii internet thing
i need it to work with NO questions asked by the wireless settings the LAN is direct i know, but still it goes rigt into the wireless router anyways right?

Recently married and moving into my wife's apartment. Unable to use landline unless I can find 200 feet. Computer comes with broadcom 802.11g wireless card. Tried to connect to wireless router with that card but unable. Purchased new Netgear PCI card but this was unsuccessful. Returned and purchased USB Netgear wireless adapter. Software successfully installed. USB port inserted. Device manager states it is working correctly/no interference. Still unable to connect. When I attempt to connect via Network Connections I get a window that states Windows unable to find wireless network. I know there are 10 or so wireless networks as my wife's laptop can view them. My wireless router works as that is how I am on the internet now. Would really like to get internet on my desktop but unable to at this point. Have tried 2 different wireless products, both installed properly but not connected suggesting some setting is incorrect. Any thoughts? Thank you for your help.

I rarely get a signal and when I do it is very weak. My desktop is located in a 2nd floor office while the router is in the basement. My girlfriend's laptop has a very strong signal with full bars when on the 1st floor. My router is a Linksys WRT54GL Wireless Router - 54Mbps, 802.11g, 4-Port and I have a Linksys WUSB54GC USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter - 54Mbps, 802.11g for my desktop. My desktop is brand new with Windows 7, 3.2 GHz, plenty of free space, etc.
