Ok. So here's the issue. Our computer is pretty much D E A D.
Here's the symptoms;
-the disk drive won't read. ANYTHING.
-wireless internet won't connect, or find other connection, like our home connection.
-we have a usb internet adapter thing (Linksys from Cisco Systems) and it reads, but doesn't connect, show-up, and when you search it it comes up as nothing. I know it reads, because it shows up when i go to safely remove hardware.
-runs REALLY slow.
-if you click on my computer, instead of the usual things showing up, it only shows Local Disk (C:), Norton Back-up Drive, Shared Docs, and Docs.
Here's some of the things i think got it this way;
My brother used to go on Addicting Games. A LOT. My brother and I may use limewire...occasionally... And we go on the usual google, wiki, facebook, formspring, bebo, whatever.
The disk drive was the first to go. And we had to disconnect it to rip up the carpet, then all else failed. Any help or advice would be super, or any way to fix it so we don't have to go to Geek squad and waste a fortune. My family is trying to start a business so money is VERY TIGHT. please help :(
and it's a DELL.
It sounds like a virus, or more than one virus. In any case, that's one of the things you need to rule out first.
I had good luck using this to repair computers, on more than one occasion, the free Avira AntiVir Rescue CD,
You need to be able to download the Avira AntiVir Rescue System setup program, and burn a CD, from another working computer. The CD you burn is then bootable. Boot the infected computer on the CD, then it will run a scan and clean any viruses it finds. (To boot a computer on a CD, make sure the CD drive appears ahead of the hard drive, in the boot sequence settings in BIOS. On many computers, often you hit <delete> or F10, right as the computer begins to boot, to enter BIOS setup.)

Well hopefully it works well enough to back up your stuff. Since your external hard drive isn't working, I recommend an online backup, like Mozy. Here is a YouTube video that I made about how to use Mozy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmhAoPCmO dY
What you need to do is put your Windows Disk or Recovery Disk into the CD/DVD drive. When you start your computer, there will be an option to press a button (often F12) to choose a boot device. Use that option to start with the disk. Then follow the instructions to erase everything and start over.

Are any of the photos really video? If so, they’re files with the .3gp suffix, which your PC probably doesn’t recognize and thus displays only as icons. There are downloadable programs that can convert .3gp video files to a format Windows PCs can use, such as .avi or .wmv. See tinyurl.com/5rscpdh for conversion programs.
If all the files are photos, the inability to transfer some pictures could mean there’s a flaw in the phone, the micro USB cable or the phone’s microSD flash memory card. If you have access to a friend’s USB cord, try it instead of yours. If the photos are stored on the phone’s microSD card, try removing the card, putting it into a card reader and then reading the photos on the PC.
