I have three VCRs and they all get the same treatment it also stops me recording off the TV set I have phoned the police several times but they dont seem interested My radio and some of my TV programmes also get jammed

I'm 14 and my family owns a discount store in NSW, Australia. I was working at the store today with my grandfather and we have a security TV. I don't usually look at it, since it's bad quality and it's almost impossible to tell if someone actually has shoplifted unless they're standing close to the front of the store. But I was bored today so I was watching these two old women on the security cameras, one of them was a few metres apart from the other and was looking at kids' toys. I watched as she grabbed a toy, opened her bag and walked into the middle of the aisles where the security cameras don't show. I was a bit suspicious, and walked towards the woman. My grandfather was smoking outside the store. The woman walked back near the registers without the toy in her hand. I knew she'd shoplifted, and she saw me staring at her. She said to me, 'It's cold today, isn't it?' and she smiled. The woman was about 50-60, and was short and overweight. I called my grandfather back in and asked to check her bag. She immediately said no, and held it close. She walked back into the store and my grandfather and I followed her, and she started hysterically yelling stuff like, 'Stop following me, you have no right to check handbags,' etc. I told her we had caught her shoplifting on film and I would call the police if she refused to let us check her bag.

By this time, other shoppers (all old women) were watching us. She walked around the store for several minutes, claiming she was buing a present while i followed her and insisted i check her bag. Then as she was about to leave, my grandfather and I blocked her but she pushed passed. My grandfather grabbed hold of her and we both tugged on her handbag, while she screamed her head off near the entrance of the store. Eventually the bag handle broke but she ran away with the bag.

Another customer said we'd just assaulted her, and she could report us for that. I know you're not meant to lay a finger on thieves, but what are you meant to do? Just let them get away? We don't have the right to check her handbag, or prevent her from leaving, nor can we call the police, because we've tried it before and they arrived after 20 minutes. I was lying to the woman, we don't actually have the video recorded. So does that mean that thieves can get away with shoplifting, or is there some other way to stop them? Also why do people shoplift? This lady was stealing a toy, and I've had a shoplifter that stole a chocolate bar before, right in front of the registers! Surely they're not like desperate for that stuff? I find that most shoplifters are old women in their late 50's to 60's. I'd really like to know why people do that kind of stuff, because I find it immoral, indecent and just plain low. For me I don't really care about the actual value of the item, since it was $10 at most. Although she was wandering around a fair bit before I caught her and may have stolen more stuff. It's just that I really want to catch shoplifters so they might stop shoplifting for some time and show them it's not so easy to shoplift.

May I count this as work experience?

My dad does security camera installs and sometimes I help pass him tools and put things together. Does that count as work experience to another employer?
