I have a Compaq Presario SR1000 desktop pc with Windows XP. I run a Linksys Wireless adapter in one of the PCI slots. I'm trying to install a Nvidia Geforce FX5200 video card so I can use dual monitors. I want to hook one of the monitors up to the card and the other to my onboard VGA slot. After installing the driver for the card I got the dual monitors to work, but for some reason my wireless adapter stopped working. Any ideas on how to remedy the situation would be much appreciated.
I want my desktop to be able to use wireless internet, primarily for gaming.
It'll be in my room, and my laptop usually gets 3 bars of strength from the wireless router.
1) which would be better for my desktop? The internal PCI type G card?
Or the type N USB adapter?
Let me see if I can elaborate a bit more...
1)wouldn't an internal PCI anything be faster than its usb counterpart? But in this case, the antenna is type N (type N = better right?) So...which should I get?
I was told over the phone that the usb adapter doesn't actually have an antennae, but it still gets me online wirelessly.
2) Will having 3 bars of signal strength adversely affect my gaming network performance? As in, will it cause me to lag?
3) Will either the wireless card or usb adapter be more powerful/receive a better signal than my laptop?
4) I know type N networks can transmit more data, but do they also have more range? Or will I need a signal booster antennas for my router?

using a linksys wireless-g pci adapter and a belkin wireless router model f5d7234-4 v 4 When I try connecting it just doesnt connect, I can see the network I'm looking for when I press View Available Wireless Networks, but I just can't get it to connect. I don't really know anything about the linksys adapter, it's just what was on the desktop at another location and now it's been brought here. Any help would be great. Thanks

I want to buy a wireless PCI adapter card for my PC. But it's an old PC (128 processor Pentium MMX with 99 mb of RAM -- it's also running DSL Linux -- if that makes any difference) and it only has the 5v "single gap" 5v 32 bit PCI slot. Will a "2 gap" 32 bit card work in it?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripheral_ Component_Interconnect
My slot is the second down on the left.
The card I want to try is the one that fits in the slot below (with the 2 gaps). I'm hoping it will work as it has 'universal' written there. Thanks for any advice.
*The diagram I am referring to is down the page a bit.. in the section titled "Conventional hardware specifications"
According to the information on the link you provided
So called "Universal cards" have both key notches and can accept both types of signal.
The intended card has both key notches, indicating that it will work with either (both) 3.3V or (and) 5V signalling.
The motherboard has a 5V PCI slot... no problem.

Hypothetical situation here: let’s say you bought an iPhone or iPad, but cheaped out and got a 16GB model. You’ve got around 10GB worth of music, a few gigs in photos and applications, and you lose the rest to formatting and the OS itself. Basically, you’re maxed on capacity. Day-to-day, this isn’t a huge issue, but let’s say you’re going on vacation and want to have some movies to watch so that you can avoid the customary in-flight chick flick [or replace with whatever type of movies you dislike]. HD movies aren’t storage friendly, they take a solid chunk of storage space, and you don’t want gut your portablemusic library for the sake of watching a couple of decent movies on the plane. So what do you do?
Mine arrives next week, i figure if it doesnt work all i am losing is the shipping. Good Luck
