Hello everyone!
I have a HP a6720f and I think the processor went out on it.
So I was looking to get the AMD Phenom II x6 1090T black
To get this processor I would also need a mother board. So I was looking into getting ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890
My question is would the other thinks I have with the HP a6720f work with the new processor and mother board? Should I get a bigger power supply? Better RAM? etc? The power supply I have that came with the HP is only 300w. Would I also need more fans? or a cooling system?

Thank You for and respond!
If you replace the motherboard on a branded machine (HP, Dell, Sony, Compaq, Gateway etc) then you'll have to purchase a new copy of Windows as well.
The factory-installed OEM versions of Window are restricted to the original motherboards those systems came with. If a processor dies, you can replace it with the highest version the original motherboard accepts. If the motherboard fails, you can replace it with the same model. Anything else will require a new copy of Windows.
Replacing a motherboard normally requires you to boot from the Windows CD immediately after making the hardware change to perform a repair install- that re-detects and loads the motherboard drivers. Windows won't boot until this step is performed (the old motherboard drives don't match so attempts to load them will crash the system). After that's done Windows must be re-activated.
But the motherboard re-detection is only possible with a regular Windows CD, the system recovery CDs/programs shipped by brand-name manufacturers don't support that operation. And using a regular Windows CD to attempt the repair means the product key from your factory-installed version won't work.
Your DDR2 memory won't work on a socket AM3 motherboard. You could go with a socket AM2+/AM3 board that accepts your existing RAM, but such a board would only take a Phenom II X4 at best, the hexacore 1090T will only work on AM3 boards with DDR3 memory.
Yes you'll need more than a 300W power supply. Even if you just replace your old CPU it's good to have at least 450W-500W in order to install decent midrange graphics cards.
What are planning to use the computer for? For gaming, your graphics card (GPU) is more important than your processor (CPU). If you really want the 1090T, you're basically looking at a whole new system.

ASUS requires a MINIMUM of 600w for their Socket AM3 boards currently. I would recommend 750w or better QUALITY power supply.
The current Socket AM3 processors require DDR3 memory. DDR2 memory will not work in that motherboard (or any socket AM3 motherboard).
The Geforce 9100 card would be a bottleneck. I would invest in an ATI 5000 series video card. Preferably the 5850 or 5870. (if you can afford it). If you can't afford it, the HD5770 is priced nicely and you can add a second when the budget permits for crossfire.
If you are a SERIOUS hobbiest and/or overclocker, that motherboard is a DREAM, but it is VERY overpriced in my opinion and unless you are looking at getting into serious overclocking, it would be a waste of money. ESPECIALLY if you do not dramatically upgrade the video.
I would recommend the ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 motherboard and spend the extra on the video card and RAM. It still has GREAT features and overclock ability and is priced $80 less. It is a VERY capable motherboard for an AM3 platform and has nearly identical specs as the Crosshair IV Formula.
The only other concern will be case size, case motherboard stand-off configuration and air flow. Some stock cases are built on the ATX standard, some are not. I couldn't tell you without looking at it. Might not be a bad idea to prepare to buy a case if there is not enough room for the new components or the stand-offs in the case do not match or are not standard.

I'm going to be honest. Being an engineering student, I want something great for school. However, more importantly, I just want some entertainment. I'm not a huge gamer or anything like that, but I appreciate cool features that both offer.
Apple make quality products as I have seen and used them up close, though I don't have one. My mom is almost insistent on my getting the Imac 27'' (dual core).
Although the touchsmart by HP has some features I find impressive and usable, like TV-tuner, touch, blue-ray, remote, wireless keyboard and mouse (which imac also has).
I don't know man. On the basis of quality, and just overall entertainment options, what do you guys think. I'm not poor, but I'm not rich either so I can't afford to empty my bank account on a poor choice.

I have an HP TouchSmart wireless keyboard and it just randomly stopped working. We have changed the batteries, restarted the computer, reset the keyboard...what is wrong?!?!?!

I recently bought a new PC and has included in it a wireless keyboard and mouse which I am currently using. So I'm wondering how long the battery life lasts for both keyboard and mouse. Both HP.
I noticed that the mouse has an option to switch off... whereas the keyboard does not have that option. So the keyboard is continuously on? I noticed that the red laser light on the mouse is on even when the computer is off... unless I switch the mouse switch to Off.
