Speedometer problems! HELP!?

I reasonable bought a used car and i know that buying one you get the problems with it. Well we test drove it and the speedometer was fine. Well now it's fluctuating but it acts like it wants to industry sometimes it'll go back up to the speed that i'm going then it goes right back down. Nothing else was acting funny all the other gauges were acting normal, lights stayed on and were sharp. Nothing else i could see was wrong except for the speedometer. Except for the radio it goes in and out a little bit, but it's a 12 year old stock radio. Do you know how much it would cost to get the speedometer decided? Or does anyone know what the problem might be?

It's a '97 Ford explorer

I'm not precisely sure how that particular vehicle sends the speed signal to the speedometer but there is a problem there.
Some used to use a line, some now use a sensor. It might be as simple as cleaning the sensor marks that send the signal.

Most disposed to the cable (speedo) is binding up in the housing. The best way to fix the problem is to disconnect the cable at the transmission and behind the bound. If you can do this you can pull the cable out at the speedo head and lube it (the cable) with anti-seize grease. Or you can buy another radiogram assy.

HI!

You have NO Radiogram to operate your Speedometer. it is all electronic ( and i do not mean digital ! ) The Speed Sensor could not be at fault for this species of Problem either!

I have seen this Many Many times in Ford explorers and trucks

The Problem lies in the Speedometer Cluster. These Clusters exhibit a bad solder joint and need repairing

It is best to have the Instrument Cluster Removed and Repaired or Replaced. A junkyard Replacement is ok but write sure you get a guarantee.

I pull at least one cluster a week and repair them for this same sort of problem!

I would charge $150 to nick the cluster plus shipping.

I guarantee my work for 2 years.

I hope this helps Good Stroke of luck!

MyFord Touch shows that cars far from smart

Has praised the update, saying it addresses many past problems.

I recently spent a week driving a Ford Focus with the new MyFord Touch system installed. I didn’t test the old version, so I can’t say how much better the new one is. But my judgment is, it still needs a lot of work.

The system’s new interface divides its display into four quadrants: one each for the audio system, phone-related features, the climate-control system and the navigation system. To access any of the four areas, you touch the appropriate label; each is in a corner of the display. Within each area, you are presented with a list of subsections or an array of on-screen buttons that allow you to do things such as specify which audio device you want to listen to, access your phone’s address book or get directions to a particular address.
