I just got a violin not too long ago and have been desperately seeking the maker of it. I found a label on it and well what do you know, it's worn out. It's located on the bridge and has a star (it looks like a jewish star) and the starts with an I then has a G or a C, then the last two letters are a G or a C and an N. Can someone help me maybe locate what the maker is of this? My step grandfather says it's 400 years old. (But he tends to make up stories..) Anyways, thanks!
I have been playing the violin for a couple of years (off and on) but the violin I have been learning on isn't very good and the sound is worse. I want a violin that doesn't sound like a beginner's violin anymore. I was thinking of getting the Cecilio CVN-400 just because I'm on a tight budget. What do you recommend for tight wallets?
So I want help deciding whether I should take violin or piano lessons.
I've played oboe for almost 4 years, and I took piano before then - I think I could reteach myself if I had a good guide. I remember the notes and have music, I just have trouble with the bass clef and how to figure out where to place your fingers. So if anyone has a good refresher, I'd love it, a lot.
And violin, I think, is a beautiful instrument - I'd absolutely LOVE to play it. My mom said she'd sign me up for lessons.
But I can't choose between violin or piano lessons, since I haven't played piano in 5 years. Such a hard decision @-@
So what do you recommend and why?
I really have a big passion for music. I find myself wanting to play every instrument I can especially drums, piano, guitar & violin.
Obviously I cannot master them all but I do find the reason I like all instruments are because of the combined sounds they produce together.
This has got me really interested in computer composing and thus my question..... For computer composing do I need to learn other instruments other than the piano? I find that music can be well structured on a piano. You can use the piano for every sound with a computer.
I currently have a digital piano, roland drum kit but I cannot see the logic in keeping the kit if I am going to be computer composing.
Is it better to master the piano as this will be the main tool for computer composing?

I was thinking of buying an acoustic-electric violin. But I noticed that most electric violins has a 9-volt battery compartment. If I wanted to play it with an amplifier, would I still need a 9-volt battery for it to work?
I was thinking of learning how to play a violin and play it with my band. Which is better, an electric violin or an electric acoustic violin? I wanted to play it with reverb and delay effect pedals so I'll be using the amp pretty much and if I would buy an electric-acoustic violin, I'll hear the natural sound of it. But since I still need to learn how to play a violin (and might take violin lessons), I don't think that an electric is a good choice.
Which type do you think is better for my situation?
