I'm hoping to pin a new Iphone 3GS to my car's stereo, that doesn't have AUX inputs. My choices are the FM transmitter, or tape deck adapter. The transmitter would be neater, but I haven't heard a lot of fair reviews. Have you ever used one that you were happy with? Should I just go with the tape deck adapter?
I have themselves used a variety of FM transmitters and unfortunately they are renowned for only having quality sound as good as FM radio - which has unmoving and other interferences affecting its quality. I'd highly recommend the tape deck adapter as a solution if you hankering to maintain your current car stereo setup.
All the best!

hmm there actuallry both rlly well-behaved. but yeah the fm transmitter can have flaws because of static so find a good station to put it on. and the cassette tap is good but not all cars have that like somtimes someone else might desire to use it or u might switch cars so id suggest the fm TRANSMITTER!!! hope this helps

I would get the spool adapter. Especially if you live where radio actually comes in. You never know when a station will come in and adjudicate to screw up your transmitter.
Plus the tape thing is cheaper, at around $7-10

So, I’m sitting in traffic in my 2005 Mazda Tribute when a Porsche Boxster pulls up next to me, top down, tunes blasting. I had my own tunes playing, my iPhone was plugged into my FM transmitter which was straining to override the channel I had chosen for playback. The sound produced from my setup was swamped by the Boxster’s sound system like a rowboat in a tsunami.
I could have fired up a CD, I suppose. I was trying to enjoy my Black Eyed Peas album, but my setup was barely getting the job done, and the Boxster just made matters worse.

So, the 3G iPhone isn't compatible with my car FM transmitter. So I hacked it to add in a headphone input (so I can hook it up to anything while still keeping the iPod connector) and a larger antenna (so I can broadcast throughout my entire house). Used an old pre-scavenged cat5 cable and...

I bought this, since I gave the old one to my son.
Far better sound quality than the old one.
